TRUNKT 03.20.07

It’s always fascinating to get a glimpse behind the creative process.
So when Trunkt member Jennifer Hill of JHill Design suggested the idea of SketchBooks, we asked her to be the first in the series. Jennifer was kind enough to share her drawings, inspirations and prototypes for her Mexico and Death Valley designs.

It’s quite an honor because, as Jennifer says, “if I got mugged I’d make sure that I got my sketchbook from them before I got my wallet.”
Quick factoid: Jennifer’s sketchbook of choice is Moleskin.

“I’m often inspired by an interesting story, article or just an image of a place and then I do a little research about the place.”

“My sketching process is a lot of little “doodles” and collage, ripping apart fashion magazines to get ideas about images or colors for the piece. From there I take my rough sketch and transfer it to the computer using Illustrator, and then pick colors using a PMS book.”

“The most satisfying part of the whole process is to see the finished printed pieces. My other favorite part is to look back over my sketchbooks just to see where the whole thing started. When the colors are really working together and I can say, “Wow, that looks just like I imagined”… there’s no feeling like it.”
