PLACES I'VE NEVER BEEN™ began in the imagination of Jennifer Hill of JHill Design. "I've always loved to travel, so when I read and hear about places around the world graphic images form in my head. They are influenced by the natural setting of the place, by the culture, and by the events I imagine being part of." For each piece JHill includes tidbits of information about the place: The city/area and country name, the language, how many miles one would travel from the east coast (specifically Boston) to get there, and a few words about the influence of the place on the pattern
"This series is about the expectations we all have about discovering a new place. My hope is to eventually include pieces that chronicle not only where I hope to go, but where I have been.” The patterns of each piece encourage people to imagine their own voyages.
HOW THE PATTERNS ARE MADE JHill's ideas come from books, stories, movies etc... She then sketches out her ideas, scans them and redraws them on her computer to get that crisp, sharp line. She plays with the colors (her trusty Pantone book always on hand) to pick the perfect shades for each piece and then refers to her research to pick the text for the piece. |
